6 Tips for Employee Guidance &
Communication If Your Dealership
Doors Close for Business
1. Above All, Focus on Their Safety and Health
Your team's well-being should always be your top priority. Do not compromise that. If
they are feeling ill, encourage them to stay home and utilize PTO until they recover.
2. Empathy and Adaptivity are Key
Many of your employees may be parents to children whose schools' have closed, and
they may need to help their children with virtual learning activities. Be considerate of
these uncontrollable circumstances and offer flexibility when its needed.
3. Dilute Negativity with Your Positivity
Let your positivity radiate throughout your team. Encourage your employees to obtain
their COVID-19 updates from trusted, valid sources such as the CDC and WHO,
and
to come to management directly for updates regarding the future state of the business.
4. Get Familiar with Employee Benefits
An Employee Assistance Program could become a popular benefit perk to help
employees with their mental health needs during this stressful time.
5. Stress the Value of Productivity from Home
Social distancing is not a vacation. Encourage your team to stay productive by working
on building their database, doing OEM or vendor e-learnings, and growing their social
media presence to stay connected with their customers.
6. Identify Remote Solutions
Tools like Zoom Video Conferencing or GoToMeeting allow your team to work from
home just like they were at their desks in the dealership. Beyond that, make sure your
team can access as much of your tech stack remotely as possible (CRM, DMS, etc.).
